The Childhood We Can’t Afford to Lose


The other day I found myself thinking about my childhood, and I couldn’t help but smile. My holidays were spent at my grandparents’ house. We played outside until the sun disappeared, climbed trees, played football in the street, came home covered in mud, laughed until our stomachs hurt, and somehow still found the energy to keep going.
There were afternoons when I simply sat beside my grandmother while she sewed clothes, fascinated by the patience in her hands. Other days I learned how to fix something with my grandfather, helped around the house, or invented games with my cousins that required nothing more than imagination.
